Hepatitis Viral Antigen (Natural Isolates)

cat#RDI-HBASOL-AG   $312.00/1ml + $125/ml 2 or more $1562.00/10ml Bulk quotes on request

Viral Strain: Viral Strain: pHM175 from CDC, propagated in FRhK-4 Cells, packaged in 0.1 M Tris, pH 8.5 +/- 0.2, approx 2-4 ug/ml (40-60% Viral Protein) Inquire for more concnetrated form

HAV Antigen Description: The virus is propagated in FRhK cells and generates a lytic infection. Infected cells are harvested and the virus is partially purified prior to inactivation with formalin. The final antigen is prepared in Tris buffer, pH 8.0-8.5.

Quality Control involves coating ELISA plates and assaying a series of panel samples. Reactivity to the negative control must not be more than twice the blank. Infectivity Analysis: The HAV antigen is formalin inactivated and tested by innoculating FrHK-4 cells and monitoring for plaques over a 10 day period.

Hepatitis A, also termed infectious hepatitis, is caused by hepatitis A virus (HAV). The Centers for Disease Control estimates that 143,000 cases of acute HAV infection occur each year in the USA. Worldwide estimates of HAV infection exceed 1.4 million cases. HAV is transmitted via the fecal-oral route.1

The clinical course of HAV infection can range from a mild, anicteric illness to severe, prolonged, icteric hepatitis.

Evaluations of IgM and total Ig to HAV by EIA provides the diagnosis of acute or past infection with HAV. Anti-HAV IgM is always present in serum at the time of symptoms of HAV infection and may be present for several months after acute illness. Therefore, IgM assays for HAV can be used to make a diagnosis of recent infection. The total antibody level, measured using an HAV Ig assay, is positive in acute hepatitis A infection and remains positive indefinitely.1
